A New Look for the SAT -Maya Ash

Updated: Nov 1, 2022

On Jan. 25, 2022, the College Board announced that the SAT will make a couple of major changes to the exam.

The updates include a digital format and shortened time.

Digital Format:

The test has always been taken on paper, but now things are going to change to a digital format. The test is also adaptive, meaning the second section of a subject will vary in difficulty depending on how the student performs on the first section. This can give the College Board a better understanding of each student's performance.

Although it is taken online, the test can not be taken at home. The test can be taken on a student’s device, a school device, or one provided by the College Board.

Shortened Test:

The SAT is usually around three hours long, with two parts on the English portion and two parts on the math portion. The new exam is now two hours long.. If you think this is a relief, the updated English passages will make you ecstatic because the questions are also more concise. For instance, the English passages will be shortened and each passage will only contain one question rather than a multiple-choice portion.
