A Week Embracing the Value of Community - Maya Ash

During a special activity week each year, our North Andover High School gets to formally celebrate and embrace the culture and community of our school. With the help of our student council and other faculty members, we had a theme for each day of the week.

This included Monday, March 28 when we focused on mental health; students wore green, added compliments to the compliment poster, and created a high-five line at the entrance when people left school.

Tuesday, March 29 highlighted school spirit when the freshmen wore silver, sophomores wore white, juniors wore red, and seniors wore black. Additionally, during lunch, students were offered pronoun pins and participated in a “compliment war.” After school, students showed their appreciation to our janitors, lunch staff, and bus drivers by providing cupcakes and roses.

Wednesday, March 30 marked a day of environmental service with students wearing thrifted or sustainable clothing. The purpose was to highlight how sustainable clothing reduces resource waste, thereby saving the environment. Other environmental focuses of the day included composting trash at lunch and cleaning up the campus after school.

On Thursday, March 31, students recognized the meaningful extracurricular clubs and activities available at the high school.

Lastly, Friday, April 1 recognized the importance of caring for one another. The school held a pep rally with performances from different clubs as well as a student vs. teacher basketball game.

Overall, the week was a way to represent the dedication and care we have for our North Andover community and to appreciate the love we have for one another by embracing each student's uniqueness! During the coming months, let’s think of activities to equal or outdo this year’s great success.
