North Andover High School’s Knights Care Week was a spectacular combination of creative ideas to engage students in issues or activities that they feel passionate about while also emphasizing the importance of community involvement throughout the grades. The week spanned from March 28 to April 1 and was filled with activities that students could take part in, big or small.
Monday started off with “Knights Care about Mental Health” Day. Students wore green to help support this cause and visited a table outside of all three lunches to take part in a compliment poster and a “high five” line at the end of the football entrance for people leaving the school.
Tuesday was “Knights Who Care about the Community!” Day. Colors were assigned to each grade of the high school: freshmen wore gray and silver, sophomores wore white, juniors red, and seniors black in order to have a sense of community. During lunch, the compliment table was switched out with a table selling pronoun pins and school staff received tokens of appreciation such as giving the janitors and lunch staff cupcakes and gifting the bus drivers with roses.
Wednesday was “Knights Care about the Environment” Day. Students dressed in thrifted or sustainable clothing that was ecologically friendly. There was an organized campus cleanup to make sure that the environment outside the school was clean and rid of any harmful waste.
Thursday highlighted the diverse community of students and their clubs ranging from Yearbook Club and Race Amity to the Asian Pacific Islanders Club. All three lunches were filled with students browsing through different exhibits with volunteer representative students from each club to answer any questions.
Friday, the most exciting day of the week, culminated with a festive pep rally featuring interactive performances from different clubs. The bleachers were decked out with class color streamers, balloons, and signs. The pep band performed the national anthem and music to hype the students up and raise excitement for the student-teacher basketball game, and the dance team entered the court with flashy moves and catchy music.
Knights Care Week was a successful endeavor that the Student Council helped execute with a lot of heart and hours put into each day and its activities. The week went by quickly, and the community at North Andover High School seemed to come closer through the combination of activities and community bonding events.
